Body of email tribute to Abby
Dear friends and family,
Some of you know our dog Abby very well,
some of you don't. I am writing this email
to tell you about her. You see, God's Word,
the bible, says to rejoice with those
rejoicing and weep with those who weep.
Well, we are hurting right now due to Abby
dying last Friday from thyroid cancer. In a
way , it was a relief that she is not
suffering any more, but now that she is
gone, we are greiving. Maybe this eulogy to
a dog is a little wierd, but she was a great
dog and I would like to honor her by sharing
some things about her. I am posting
pictures of her on our blog at
http://www.mountainsmajesty.com/SteveandConnieblog.htm
As I said, Abby died last Friday from
thyroid cancer. Even though the vet said
she only had 2-3 weeks to live, she lasted 3
more months, so we were thankful for that.
We took her on a short hike last Sunday at
Ute Valley Park, and she barely made it.
That is when we knew that her time was
short.
As also most of you know, Abby went
everywhere with us. You see, if she sat in
the car all day, that was fine with her, as
long as it was "with" us. If we left her in
the house, she would deliberately do
something bad, so we would take her with
next time. We took her on almost every
vacation that we could. This included
sneaking her into many hotels, and she was
always cool about it.
We went on countless walks, runs, ride and
hikes with her. Probably her favorite was
going on a walk or run. She would follow us
around the house somethimes if she thought
it was time for a run and go nuts when we
put our shoes on to go. She was a great
running buddy, and it will be very hard to
train without her.
I got Abby in the deal when Connie and I got
married. I kept telling Connie that Abby
was my dog, but we all knew better. Abby
loved Connie immensely. She was always
keeping an eye out for her and was always
looking to be her protector. It was always
touching to see Abby do her afternoon
routine while waiting for Connie to come
home from work. At about 3pm every day, she
would sit at the top of the stairs or the
top of the driveway and patiently wait for
Connie to come home. I heard a story years
ago (before I was around) about Abby getting
out of a 2nd story window unto the roof of
the house when Connie got home from work.
She was so excited that she jumped off the
roof. She never did that again.
Abby was such a gentle and loving dog. She
was the "neighborhood" dog at our house in
Monument. Everyone in the neighborhood
would stop at our house and come over to
Abby in the yard and pet her. At our new
house in town, she would always be looking
for the neighbors to go for a walk and tag
along with them. When we would take her
downtown, or wherever, with us, everyone
would just come over to pet her. Especially
kids. She loved kids.
Anyway, I seem to be rambling. But Abby was
more than just a house pet. She was a
partner when on hike and runs. She shared
our rides and vacations and was apart of
them as much as we were. When we go out
into the public to share the Gospel with
folks, Abby would always go with us an
sometimes be an ice breaker to get the
conversation going. She was a very easy
going dog, except when being a watch dog.
Abby was always on guard at the house, and I
felt very secure in her "protection mode"
when I was not there at night. She was
great with kids and let them do almost
anything to her. She loved our grandchild,
Phillip. After Phillip came out to visit
us, we asked him if he missed us. He said
that he "missed Abby". We understood.
The one things that Abby did the best was to
love Connie. She would do anything for
her. Even eat something like lettuce, if
Connie would offer it to her. We will miss
her alot. She was so much apart of our
lives that we are surprised at the loss now
that she is gone. But life goes on. We are
thankful for having her as long as we did.
God bless
Steve and Connie

06/15/07 Abby is gone. She had a good life for a dog.
She will be especially missed due to the fact that she went EVERYWHERE
with us. We snuck her into tons of hotels on road trips.
Where ever we went, she went. But her time was up. She was
starting to suffer, and we did not want that. Bye bye Abby...she
was a good girl, except when she was bad ;).
06/14/07 Our Walgreens store got robbed last night at 1:30am.
Plenty of things to be grateful about. Especially that they did not come
back to the pharmacy. 2 guys waving handguns wanting all the cash out of
the registers. Then one of the guys went behind the counter and got 4
packs of Marlboro Menthol Smooths. With all the hundreds of cartons of
cigarettes around, he went for just (his favorite obviously) 4 packs.
On to a better subject. A pic of a ghost town outside of
Silverton, CO last year.
06/12/07 We got news from a Compassion group in Kenya that met
Anthony!
Hi Steve and Connie
I’m currently in Kenya on an advocate trip and today Sandra
introduced me to Anthony, your sponsored child. What a great guy he
is! I told him all about you and Steve and how you’re both
advocates. He wanted me to say how appreciative he is and how
blessed he is that Steve chose to sponsor him. He asked for your
prayers because tomorrow he will be interviewed for the Leadership
Development Program! He wants to be an accountant and from our
meeting today I know for sure he is fully capable to accomplish his
goals if he has the opportunity. Praise God for this young man!
Blessings from Kenya!

06/11/07 Abby is not doing well. We are very sad that she
will not last very much longer. We will miss her. Here she
is today helping me in the back yard with landscaping projects.
Iris flowers in our front yard.
06/10/07 A video from a high school student Lizzy Palmer. She
is planning on joining the military when she is old enough. Thank God for the
sacrifice of those fighting for our country. Yes, we are VERY
proud. The best of the best. Volunteers who fight to protect our
freedoms and way of life. We remember them and pray for them. God bless.
06/09/07 Played Kings Deer today. We both shot 74! Pretty good
for a couple of old farts.

06/07/07 Our helper when cleaning the house. This is him
resting afterward. We call him Thomas, or Fat Boy or Gordo Gato.
Connie took this picture of some Indian Paintbrush while hiking the
other day. Lots of flowers this year with all the rain. We
are going on a wildflower hike in the mountains later this month.
Should be spectacular. Look for the pictures!
06/06/07 Just a picture of all of us (including Anika) in Vail
a couple of years ago...
06/04/07 I went to the Compassion Global Headquarters last Wednesday
for lunch. We all had a barbeque out in the parking lot to watch the
Thunderbirds do an air show for the Air Force Academy graduation ceremonies.
Awesome!
They flew right over the Compassion building also!

06/02/07 This is the official photo from the Bolder Boulder 10K
...probably taken at the 5 mile mark.
06/01/07 Wow, what happened to May? We are looking
forward to some good weather out here in Colorado. It has been
nothing but cold and snow since last October. The drought has been
officially declared over, however. The first time since we have
been out here, the reservoirs are full, and everything is GREEN.
These two pictures are of a motorcycle that some guy drove to Territory
Days. Looks like it is tricked out so this guy can drive the
motorcycle, even if he is in a wheelchair. Pretty cool huh?
See the bar that goes from the sidecar to the front wheel of the
motorcycle?
Me with some Civil War guys. Those are working muskets.
05/31/07 Our Memorial Day weekend at Territory Days consisted
of wearing cowboy stuff and sharing the Gospel to the lost of Colorado
Springs... This Connie sharing with some folks and a guy
grateful for the message of salvation.
And me doing the same..the guy on the right wanted to switch hats.
Got my results from the Bolder Boulder 10K(finally!) Just
barely "beat my age".....results below. Looks like some guy died
this year running the race...YIKES! Article

05/30/07 Loved this sign. Almost got it for the back
yard. Now, in range for what you ask? Hmmmm. For those
that don't belong there(and while you are leaving)......how about for
pooch to go after you, or for me to give you a gospel presentation or
how about the wrong end of a 40 caliber Springfield Armory XD?
Your choice.
05/29/07 A guy we saw at the game. He (obviously) is a
Cardinal/Rockies fan.
The Cards lost, but it was fun anyway.
05/28/07 We worked our church booth at the Territory Days
Festival in town. We had to wear our cowboy stuff. More pics on this
later.
